When the calendar rolls around to that special day in February, it’s supposed to be a joyful, romantic day to celebrate the one you love. Unfortunately, Valentine’s Day can quickly turn into a big stress-out for those who are on a budget.
There’s no need to get worked up over this special day however, because it’s certainly possible to have a fantastic day without spending a lot of money.
With a little creativity and thought, you may even celebrate in style without spending a dime. Plus, the more creative and personalized a gift is (which is easy with handmade items), the more heartfelt and romantic it tends to be.
A Romantic Dinner At Home Can Be A Cheap Date Idea
If you have only a little money to spend, then try cooking that romantic dinner at home. You can still have a slightly fancier meal than you normally do, but you won’t pay the inflated prices for an inflexible menu you might find at a restaurant on Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget the bottle of wine and set a nice table with a table cloth, candles and flowers if you can. Flowers out of the garden will work fine to add a bit of color.
You can also give your date flowers if you don’t use a florist. It’s certainly easier to use one, but many grocery stores offer a dozen or even two dozen beautiful roses for twenty dollars or less on Valentine’s Day. They are usually presented in a beautiful arrangement, so if you already have a vase at home you’re all set!
Of course, if you’re really in a pinch financially, you may not be able to afford those little luxuries.
In that case, all you need to do is make a card with a piece of paper and a nice pen or some colorful markers. If you’re not great at drawing, you can always use one of the photos you already have of the two of you together (cut in the shape of a heart) and pasted to the front and back.
You can search the Internet for poems to write inside, but a wonderful touch is to write about your favorite memory together, or what your thoughts were the first time you saw your partner.
More Cheap Date Ideas
A customized play-list full of songs that remind you of your love, a scavenger hunt around the home for love notes, a foot rub or back massage – all of these are free and make your special day memorable.
Another idea is to create a scrapbook full of memories, photos and keepsakes from your relationship.
Valentine’s Day can still be lovely and personal if you’re willing to put a little work and planning into it.
